What’s in your Gelert Socks?
0 Comments | Posted By Corrina JeffreysIt may come as a bit of a surprise but extensive research goes into the fibres used in making socks. At Gelert extensive research is undertaken into sock fibre technology and performance, but what do these fibres mean and why are they important. Here’s a quick over view to make sure you are getting the best out of your socks.
Merino Wool
The highest, finest and best type of wool available. Merino wool is listed as a class one wool, it is durable, does not irritate the skin and is shrink treated so it holds its size and shape.
Securlana
Socks made with over 20% Merino Wool will be pre-treated with a Securlana wash. Wool fibres naturally have a jagged surface, Securlana works to seal those edges to prevent pilling, felting, shrinking and fading. Socks are left noticeably softer, and yet are more hard wearing. You will find Securlana in the Gelert Womens Wanderer Socks, Gelert Womens Walker Socks, Gelert Mens Multisport Active Socks and Gelert Mens Wanderer Sock to name but a few.
Isolfil
The Polypropylene fibre of Isolfil has low thermal conductivity, its unique wicking ability moves perspiration quickly and naturally away from the body. It is durable, easy to care for and odour free. You will find Isolfil in the Gelert Womens Multisport Active Socks, and the Gelert Mens Coolmax Liner Socks, along with other Gelert sock ranges.
Coolmax
This is a high performance, four channel polyester fibre that has been proven to reduce skin temperature during exercise, whilst working to move moisture away from the skin and speed the evaporation of perspiration. You will find Coolmax in both the Gelert Mens and Womens Venture Socks.
Drirelease
Drirelease Wool with FreshGuard® offers the best of both worlds – it has the ease of care of a synthetic fibre with the features of a natural fibre. The patented unique blend of synthetic and natural fibres in Drirelease yarn actually accelerates the water release rate. Rather than just spreading moisture across the surface, Drirelease yarns push water and perspiration to the outside of a garment, releasing it into the air faster than any other performance fabric on the market.
FreshGuard is an odour neutralizer that is embedded in all Drirelease fabrics. Unlike other products, which use a tropical anti-microbial finish, FreshGuard is a process that is built directly into Drirelease fabrics and doesn’t come out in the wash.
Lycra
Lycra is a synthetic fibre which is strong and lightweight. It can stretch to over five times its relaxed length and fully recover its shape. By adding 2-3% of Lycra enables the socks to retain their shape and size after repeated wear and laundering.
Cordura
For every activity, Cordura fabrics offer outstanding durability and abrasion resistance in the great outdoors whatever the climate.
Cotton
Is cool and soft in wear. It is an ideal fibre for its excellent abrasion resistance and it can withstand frequent laundering.
Polyamide
Is a durable fibre that helps keep your feet dry and comfortable.
Acrylic
Is a fine, soft and luxurious fibre with the bulk and feel of real wool. Lightweight and springy, this fibre is quick drying and washable.
